March 31 School Update:

I hope all of you are doing well and staying safe.  We have been working hard to get information out to you and provide as much detail as possible.  We hope that you are feeling a part of the community of DCS and you are receiving timely answers to your questions.

There have been several inquires about picking items up from the school or getting work packages that teachers may be getting ready.  We welcome you to do so if you need something but want to make sure that it is done in an orderly manner and according to the guidelines set out by the Ministry of Education and Health.  If there is something at the school that you require or need, please see the attached document that outlines the schedule to pick things up from the school.  If the times that are listed do not work for you, please connect with me to arrange an alternate time to pick up.
Thank you for your ongoing support.  We are praying that all of you are safe and doing well.
Blessings,
Peter Terpstra

UPDATE: Student Textbook and Supply Pickup

This morning I sent out a message about picking up items from the school.  I need to clarify that work packages are still being created and may not be available by tomorrow.  The teachers are working hard, but realistically, work packages will be available next week.  If you have any questions, please email me.  Also, you do not need to pick anything up from the school if it is not a necessity.  Everything in the building is safe.

March 30 School Update:

After a time of staff devotions (via Google Meet online video) this morning, our staff have begun reaching out to all families.  We are pleased to be reconnecting with you all! It feels like it’s been a long time since we’ve been together.  If you have not heard from a staff member by Tuesday afternoon, please give us a call, text, or email to let us know. Perhaps we do not have the correct contact information for your family.
It’s normal to feel a certain level of stress and worry during these times.  Attached, I have included a document with some important wellness ideas and Youtube links for parents.  These supports come from the Canadian Mental Health Association. Please check it out when you have a few moments to read and reflect.
Lastly, think about how God has been good and faithful in the life of your family over the past couple of weeks.  God remains in control and although His plans may be hidden from us, He gives hope to us all.  What reasons do you have to be thankful? Perhaps write them down or share them with the members of your family.
I continue to pray for you all.
God is good, all the time.
Jeremy Tinsley
Principal

March 29 School Update:

A friendly reminder that no students may be at the school this week unless they have been pre-approved by the school office. If you’re unsure, please call first.

If you are an essential worker and require the support of in-school services for your children, please contact the school as soon as possible: office@duncanchristian.com or 250-746-3654.
If you are a parent or student who is struggling during these challenging times, please phone, email, or text the school. We may be able to help.
Please do not come by the school to pick up materials until you have been contacted by the school or a schedule has been provided. We are working on creating a schedule to allow for pickups in a safe way.
Our staff look forward to reconnecting with students by phone beginning Monday! If you have not heard from staff by Tuesday, please call, text or email us.
May God sustain your family and give you His peace, hope, and love!

March 26 Ministry of Education Update:

For parents and guardians, a new government website has been launched with up-to-date non-clinical information on COVID-19. British Columbians can also use the new provincial phone service by calling 1-888-COVID19, available seven days a week from 7:30AM to 8PM, with information in over 110 languages.

The Ministry of Education has provided this Q&A document for families. You may find it helpful, in addition to the letter Jeremy Tinsley in the March 25 update below.

March 24 School Update:

Limited In-School Services Beginning March 30

DCS has received additional information from the Ministry of Education regarding in-school services for families. Dr. Bonnie Henry, Provincial Health Officer, has indicated that if parents work in “critical roles”, such as health services and grocery stores, schools are asked to provide in-school services for your family. To help us plan, please email (office@duncanchristian.com) or call the school (250-746-3654) to inform us if you need your children to be in school so that we can plan accordingly and ensure the safety of staff and students. Safety measures will include physical distancing, limiting the number of people the classrooms and school, and enhanced cleaning. DCS will provide in-school services for qualifying families beginning Monday, March 30, 2020. We will be as flexible as we can with your work schedules. We are also looking at transportation options to assist families.
