Press Release: Matt Brandsma earns BC High School Boys Volleyball Commission Scholarship. Congrats to Matt Brandsma!
He has received a BC High School Boys Volleyball Commission Scholarship worth $500 to support his post-secondary education! Specific qualifications for recipients are: Proceeding from Grade 12 to a post-secondary institution-Under 19 years of age as of January 1st of the current application year-A minimum 75% average in each course in the Grade 12 year -Demonstration of good citizenship and leadership-A member in good standing of the school’s Senior Boys’ Volleyball Team.
Some Stats and Info on Matt Brandsma:He received the 2017/2018 Duncan Christian School "Principal's Award" in recognition of Emulating Micah 6: 8 in both Achievement and Service."He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what the LORD requires of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6: 8)-MVP Sr. Boys Volleyball team-Selected as the Island Boys Volleyball Championship MVP-Selected as a BC Christian Sr. Boys Volleyball All-star-Selected as a Provincial Boys Volleyball All-star-MVP Sr. Boys Basketball team-Selected as an Island Basketball All-star-Selected as a BC Christian Sr. Boys Basketball All-star-MVP Beach Volleyball team-Played badminton and golf as well.
In addition to Matt’s extensive involvement in athletics, as an athlete and official, Matt is also very active outside of his school community. He continues to be very involved with the Cowichan 4H Holstein Club, a club that he has been part of for 9 years. He has served as President, Vice-President and Treasurer. He continues to volunteer at local agricultural events. He has earned many 4H awards! Matt volunteers in his church in the areas of Sunday School, Nursery and the sound board. He is also an active member of his church’s youth group.

Press Release: Morgan Nederlof wins the BC Christian Jack Boersma Junior Athlete Award! Jack Boersma Junior Athlete Awards are given to students who best combine the qualifications set out in our guidelines. The winners of this award will be eligible to receive up to $250.00 toward a sports camp of their choice. To be eligible for this award, a student must be a registered grade ten student at a Christian Senior Secondary School. Applicants must show evidence of:athletic ability and performance,scholastic achievement and goals (a minimum average of C+ is mandatory in order for application to be considered) leadership and character, school, community, and church participation. MORGAN NEDERLOF- DCS Jr. Female Athlete of the Year. She was chosen as the Most Inspirational Player on the Jr Girls Volleyball team. She was selected as an All-star at the Cowichan Jr Girls Volleyball Tournament, she was selected as the Most Sportsmanlike Player on the Sr. Girls Basketball team, she was selected as the Most Improved Player on the Sr. Girls Badminton team and selected as the Most Inspirational Player on the Track team. Congrats to our Duncan Christian School Track Team for many strong performances at the Island Track Championship, including a first ever Island 100m race for Rajan Hayer. After winning the first ever Central Vancouver Island Special Olympics 100m race, Rajan finished 9th at the Island Championship! Earning Top 9 Island Results at the Island Track Championship included: Kearra McCormick - 7th Shot Put, Morgan Nederlof - 8th Shot Put, Jesse Greir - 9th 200m and Rajan Hayer - 9th 100m. Press Release: Duncan Christian School Shines at third annual District Softball Tourney in more ways than one! DCS played some great softball again this year at the 3rd Annual District Softball tournament hosted by Justin Croswell and Cvolc - Cowichan Valley Open Learning Coop.Highlights included: 4 DCS Boys Jesse, Josaia, Zane and Elvis played for and led Chemainus to an undefeated tournament record by beating CVOLC, DCS and tying Lake Cowichan. Consistent Contributions from DCS female players Ellie, Chloe and Mollie + Andrew's big homer in the Chargers final game were key to helping lift DCS over CVOL Sheldon George was the Home Run Derby Champion for the 2nd straight year. He won the title by beating the old record of 5, set by himself last year! This year, he hit an amazing 7 home runs out of 10 pitches. Congratulations to Duncan Christian Chargers badminton players Micah Lewis and Simon Deng who successfully competed in a high level Provincial Badminton tournament through Badminton BC! This was a first for DCS! Both of our young players played in an older age group - the U17 category, each winning a "singles" match against players ranked among the best in BC! As a Doubles team, Micah and Simon finished 6th in BC! Simon also played mixed Doubles with Skyler Ji of the Vancouver Island Excellence Club and finished with a Runner up medal in the Mixed Doubles B category! ... See MoreSee Less
