Press Release: DCS Track Coach Julia Hengstler breaks provincial record for shot put!
Last weekend at the BC Masters Athletics Championship in Langley at Mcleod Athletic Park, Julia broke the Provincial record for shot put in her age group.
The previous record in the Women (50 - 54) was 11.02 m. The new record set by Julia is 11.25 m!
Julia, a member of the CVAC(Cowichan Valley Athletic Club) now holds two Provincial records. Last year, she broke the Provincial discus record!
Julia finished the Track Championship with a Gold Medal in 4 events: Shot put, Discus, Hammer and Weight Throw (16 lb. hammer a very short chain)
Julia is happy to have broken another Provincial record. She is hoping to one day break a Canadian record!

Press Release: Jaymie Brandsma + Nathan Powell win BC Christian Jack Boersma Junior Athlete Awards! Jack Boersma Junior Athlete Awards are given to students who best combine the qualifications set out in our guidelines. The winners of this award will be eligible to receive up to $250.00 toward a sports camp of their choice.
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for this award, a student must be a registered grade ten student at a Christian Senior Secondary School.
QUALIFICATIONS:Applicants must show evidence of:
athletic ability and performance
scholastic achievement and goals (a minimum average of C+ is mandatory in order for application to be considered)
leadership and character school, community, and church participation.

Flash back Friday: Duncan Christian Sports Jackets from 1989 meet up 30 years later! Mr. Veenstra is wearing his DCS "Crusaders" sports jacket from 1989. Ben Kapteyn has his Mother Carol's jacket from the same year, when Mr. Veenstra was her coach.Back then we were the "Crusaders". The Crusaders logo was designed by Cory Gilmore.
We became the Duncan Christian "Eagles" in 2005/2006. In 2006/2007, we became the Duncan Christian "Chargers". The Chargers logo was designed by Jason Brandsma.

The beautiful Chargers mural in the background was created by Mrs. Jen Tinsley.

DCS Students win 4th consecutive Student/Teacher Golf Tournament Title. The 4th annual Student/Teacher Golf Tournament took place on Thursday, May 30 at the Cowichan Golf and Country Club.
Coach Norm Jackson is the generous host of our season and of our annual golf tournament. Coach Norm and Roger Bruce, the founder of the DCS team, have succeeded in creating a great end of season "Best Ball" tournament. On the day after the tournament, the winning DCS Student team of Andrew Young, Chloe Bruce and Jeongmin Seo, were called into Principal Jeremy Tinsley's office. After dealing with the loss, Mr. Tinsley congratulated the winning team.
The team of Young, Bruce and Seo finished with a 31 (4 under Par)
Principal Tinsley, parent Scott Young and ringer John Thomas finished with 32. In 3rd place, the student team of Anna Corbett, Hannah Downie, Anna Young and Connor Loch-Labelle finished with 35. The staff team of Michelle Nederlof, Tom Veenstra and Alumna Holly Bruce finished with 37.
Rounding out the competition was the student team of Ben Kapteyn, Willy Hoeft, David Ornelas and Jesse Greir finishing with 39.

Press Release: DCS Sluggers Shine again and Chargers Softball team ties for first!. DCS Alumnus Sheldon George won the High School Home run contest for the 3rd year in a row! He tied his record 7 home runs, yesterday afternoon, at the 4th Annual Cowichan Valley High School Softball Tournament! DCS Student Mickey Johnnie won the student home run competition with 3 home runs! The DCS Chargers Softball team, coached by Mark Thomas and his two sons Gabe and Sheldon, finished in a 3 way tie for first place! After, the tie break procedure involving the best plus/minus in runs, scored for and against, Lake Cowichan had, a mere, one more run than our Chargers!
